Four High School State Champions!

4 Champs

Left to Right: Daniel Hammond, Tevis Bartlett, Nathan Parris, Ryder Jones

We are very proud of the four young men in the picture at the top of this article. Those four wrestlers from Cheyenne’s three high schools are the only four from Cheyenne to win state titles this year, and they all have a couple of things in common. The first thing that I want to point out that they all have in common is that they all started wrestling well before they were in  high school. Another thing that they have in common is that they have all put in a ton of hard work, blood, sweat and even some tears to achieve what they have. These four young men also all happen to have wrestled for Team Braves at some point when they were younger.

It is not the intention of Team Braves to take any credit for the accomplishments of the athletes, they all have great coaches at their high schools and they all also happen to have very dedicated parents who have provided massive amounts of love and support, as well as all the opportunities these guys could handle.

Grappling Gobbler Results

BenOver the weekend while most of us were recovering from over eating on Thanksgiving, and shopping on Black Friday, Two of our wrestlers took the trip to Johnstown CO to compete in the Grappling Gobbler tournament.

Ben Whitright finished the day in 5th place, and Bradley Whitright earned a 3rd place finish.

Bryce Meredith. . . On a Roll!

Bryce Meredith is a special young man, he is polite, he is respectful, and he is a long time member of Team Braves Wrestling Club. Last month I was very excited when I found out that Bryce had earned the right to represent the NC State Wolfpack at 133 pounds. I have to admit that I expected Bryce to have some success because of the type of athlete he is, but I am truly amazed with how well he is doing.

Meredith

On Saturday (November 22nd) Bryce got his his first taste of wrestling in college, Meredith came out strong, going 2 – 0 in the first two duals of the season. In his season opener (November 22nd) Bryce defeated Tyler Ziegler of Gardner-Webb 8-2, and then came back later that afternoon to beat Eric Montoya 4-1 when the NC State Wolfpack faced off against the Cornhuskers.

On Sunday (November 23rd)  NC State hosted the Wolfpack Duals. In his first match Sunday Morning Bryce scored a Major decision against Felix Casa del Valle of Lindsey Wilson, beating him 10-2. Next on the schedule was a battle against American University’s Josh Terao, who was able to give Bryce his first defeat at the collegiate level winning the bout 9 – 2. After suffering his first defeat Meredith still had to come back out for one more dual, his final bout of the weekend he defeated Asher Goodwin of Pembroke by fall at 4:30.

On Saturday (November 29th) the NC State wrestling team won two of its three duals while competing at the Journeymen/Asics Northeast Duals. The Wolfpack started with a 36-0 win over Kutztown, then downed Hofstra 27-9, and ended the day with a narrow 20-13 loss to #3 Cornell. Meredith was one of only three NC State wrestlers to go 3-0!

Practice Schedule for Thanksgiving Week

Team Braves will only have practice on Monday Nov. 24 and Tuesday Nov. 25 during the week of Thanksgiving.

We would like to invite All of our wrestlers to these practices starting at 6 on both nights.

The Team Braves coaches and board of directors hopes that each and every one of our wrestlers has a fantastic holiday and enjoys a couple of nights out of the wrestling room.

Thunder Throwdown Results

This past Saturday was an awesome day, Team Braves had 14 young wrestlers take to the mat at East High School for some great competition. Several members of our coaching staff were able to watch and coach these young athletes throughout the day and we were all happy to see that our athletes were having a lot of fun.

This post has our current practice schedule as of November 3, 2014. Our practice schedule is subject to change, we will modify and change this schedule as needed through out our season. All changes will be noted in our weekly email, and posted on this website.

Monday: Practice will be from 6 – 7 for all wrestlers ages 7 and younger

Tuesday: 6 – 7:30 for all wrestlers 8 and Older

Wednesday: 6 – 7:30 for all wrestlers 8 and Older

Thursday: 6 – 7 for all wrestlers ages 7 and younger & 6 – 7:30 for all wrestlers 8 and Older

Our middle school age wrestlers and national level competitors will practice all 4 nights of the week from 6 – 8:30, any wrestler is welcome to stay late for these practices. The late practices will be very tough and we highly encourage parents of younger and less experienced wrestlers to stay and observe the level of intensity that we expect from the wrestlers who attend, just to be sure that your kid(s) can handle it.

See you all in the wrestling room!
